Fintech industry conference, 2024. Photograph unretouched apart from the redaction — the lanyard, venue and other attendees are as shot.

I buy, test and document the products I write about — personal finance, software and consumer services — then publish the receipts.

How to verify this

Timestamped library

Reviews that carry their own receipts

Every review states when it was published, when it was last re-tested, when it is next due, and how the product was paid for. The changelog on each one is permanent.

Panorama CRM review: priced for 5 seats, built for 50

A capable CRM whose per-seat pricing quietly stops making sense at exactly the size of team it markets to.

My review process

Seven stages, published so you can check I followed them

Each stage produces an artefact an auditor can ask to see. That is the difference between a process and a promise.

  1. 01

    Intake & conflict screen

Before anything is tested, the product is screened for conflicts and for whether it can be reviewed honestly at all.

Artefact: Intake record with the conflict declaration, dated before testing begins.

  2. 02

    Acquisition — my money first

The default is that I buy the product at the normal price, as an ordinary customer, with no reviewer identity attached.

Artefact: Purchase receipt and account-creation timestamp.

  3. 03

    Structured hands-on testing

A fixed test script per category, run over a period long enough to survive the honeymoon window and at least one billing cycle.

Artefact: Raw measurement log — spreadsheets, CSV exports, screen recordings.

  4. 04

    Verification against primary sources

Every factual claim is checked against the vendor's own documents rather than their marketing pages.

Artefact: Source list with URLs and access dates, published at the foot of every review.

  1. 05

    Weighted scoring

Scores are computed from published criteria and weights, so two reviews in the same category are comparable.

Artefact: Score breakdown table, visible on every review page.

  2. 06

    Publication & disclosure

The verdict is finalised before any commercial link is placed. Not the other way round.

Artefact: Version history showing the verdict was set before links were added.

  3. 07

    Scheduled re-review

A review with an old date is a liability. Every review carries a next-review date and a public changelog.

Artefact: Public changelog on each review, with dates and what changed.

For network & advertiser audits

Self-reported numbers are worth nothing. Here is how you check mine.

The hardest objection an independent publisher faces is not whether the writing is good. It is whether the traffic is real. So every figure on this site is paired with an artefact — and most of them you can verify without any cooperation from me at all.

Verified without asking me

Ahrefs and Similarweb on the domain, Wayback Machine snapshots of any review URL, and network-side reporting from programmes I already run. Four of the ten claims below need nothing from my side.

Verified with read-only access

GA4 and Search Console viewer seats granted to your named work email, time-limited to 14 days. A dashboard seat is evidence; a screenshot is a claim.

The terms, before we get on a call

Everything below is in the contract, not just on this page. If any of the right-hand column is a dealbreaker, we are not a fit — and it is cheaper for both of us to know that now.

What I say yes to

  • Flat-fee sponsored reviews, clearly disclosed as sponsored
  • Performance / CPA partnerships through a network or direct
  • Hybrid deals: reduced flat fee plus revenue share
  • Long-term retainers for ongoing category coverage
  • Exclusive first-look access, embargoed on my publication date

What I never say yes to

  • Copy approval, pre-publication review or a veto over the verdict
  • Guaranteed scores, rankings or 'best of' placement
  • Removal or de-indexing of an unfavourable review at any price
  • Undisclosed paid placement, or disclosure hidden below the fold
  • Link insertions into existing reviews without re-testing the product
  • Any arrangement that cannot be stated openly on the page it affects

The Thursday Verdict

What changed this week in products I have already reviewed

Not a roundup of links. One email a week covering price rises, term changes and quiet downgrades in things I have tested — the changes that cost you money precisely because nobody announces them.

Double opt-in. One email a week, unsubscribe in one click, and the list is never rented, sold or shared with a partner.

Questions

The things people ask before they email

If yours is not here, the disclosure page and the verification protocol cover most of the rest.

Ask directly
Why is your face covered in the photo?
I write critically about banks, lenders and insurers in the market I live in, so I publish under a pen name and keep my face out of public photographs. It is not anonymity where it counts — my legal identity, business registration and tax documents go to every network's compliance team under NDA before any link goes live.
How do you choose what to review?
Roughly half from reader requests, half from my own shortlist of products where the advertised number looks unlikely. Advertiser approaches go through the same intake screen as everything else, and 61 have been declined at that stage.
How long does a review take?
Between 30 and 190 days of hands-on use. Every product is held through at least one full billing cycle, because renewal behaviour is where most of the unpleasant surprises live.
Do you accept free products?
The default is that I buy it. Where a vendor provides access — because there is no consumer purchase path, for instance — that is printed at the top of the review rather than in a footer.
What does a partnership actually look like?
Flat-fee sponsored reviews, performance partnerships, or a hybrid. What is never on the table: copy approval, a guaranteed score, or removing an unfavourable review. The media kit states the terms before we get on a call.
How can a network verify anything on this site?
The verification page maps every claim to the artefact that proves it — read-only GA4 and Search Console access, ESP dashboards, and third-party tools you can run yourself without my cooperation.
